Where Will You Go if You Die Today?

What´s going to happen with you if you die today? Where will you go?

Many people think you reincarnate or that everyone goes to heaven or that you simply cease existing. But I think they’re only trying to relieve the anguish of a question they cannot answer. But if you believe that the Bible is the Word of God (and there are many reasons to believe it,) and that it is the truth, so, when you die, you go to one of two places: Heaven or hell.

Have you ever wondered where will you go? If you die today, the answer to that question should be the most important thing for you, because,  it won´t matter how much money you have or how many friends you have, or whether you have good or bad health; actually, nothing that the world could offer you is going to matter. What is going to matter is whether God will let you into Heaven or His wrath will abide on you for all the eternity in hell.

The problem is that the Bible says that “ for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23,) and that “your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.” (Isaiah 59:2.) We all have broken God’s law, we are imperfect sinners. Maybe you think that you’re not “so bad,” that there’re people worse than you, or maybe you think that you’re not a sinner; but, “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him (God) out to be a liar and his word is not in us.” (1 John 1:8,10.) Therefore, if we believe in God, we have to believe what He says in his Word, and His word says also in James 2:10, “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.” We’re guilty before God, and our sin makes us His enemies and “The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord takes vengeance and is filled with wrath. The Lord takes vengeance on his foes and vents his wrath against his enemies.” (Nahum 1:2)

Sins are punished in hell, and that’s the place we all deserve to go. And maybe you think God is good and He will forgive us; but though God is indeed good, He is also a just Judge. A just judge is going to punish a crime because he is just. So, in view of our sin, the answer to the question of where will you go if you died today, is that you would go to hell to pay for your sins.

But God is rich in mercy (He has not dealt with us according to our sins,) and just too. He knew that there’s no man who could fulfill completely God’s law, and He knew we all must pay, that’s why God emptied Himself, was born like a baby named Jesus, lived a perfect, sinless life fulfu¿illing God’s law, and He made Himself obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross, ¿do you know why? “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) and because “He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross.” (1 Peter 2:24.)

You and I deserved to be on that cross. Jesus bore all the wrath that you and I deserved in hell. He was your substitute; with His death, He became “the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29,) “and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7.) Jesus is the savior who died for us; no one else did, no “saint” died for our sins, and couldn’t have done it because he would have to pay for his own sins. Other “god” didn´t die for our sins either; “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12.) And not only He died, He was raised on the third day, triumphing over sin and death.

Our good works cannot save us either; “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9.)And “ I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!” (Galatians 2:21.)

Christ wants to give you eternal life, there is salvation in Him, and forgiveness of sins. He gives us His righteousness, how? “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16,) “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1.) When we realize we´re sinners condemned to hell and we admit our need of God’s pardon, of a Savior; of Jesus Christ, and we put our faith in Him and in what He did to save us, He gives us eternal life, He opens for us the gates of Heaven, and “Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6.)

Then, there is another possible answer to the question of where will you go if you died today, is that if you have trusted in Jesus Christ as your Savior, that you trust that -he paid for your sins on the cross, and that His sacrifice is enough to pay your debt; you will go to Heaven.

I beg: “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.” (Acts 16:31.)

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
1 John 5:11-12
